In 2017, the Panhellenic Council completed the infrastructure for a Panhellenic scholarship and ran a month of crowdfunding to create the first-ever Tufts Panhellenic Scholarship for new members. The goal of this scholarship is to help alleviate the financial burden of joining a Panhellenic sorority at Tufts University, as part of our initiative to make Greek life more inclusive and accessible. Last year we were able to assist 3 women cover 90% of their first year’s dues. This year we are looking to provide even more potential new members with first semester dues. Funds from this scholarship will be available to new members joining during the Fall 2019 Formal Recruitment Cycle. This info sheet explains the application process, requirements, and all other relevant details anyone interested in applying for the scholarship might need.
All questions about the scholarship should be sent to the Director of the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life, Su McGlone at Susanna.Mcglone@tufts.edu

WHO IS ELIGIBLE TO APPLY?

Students who are participating in the FALL 2019 Formal Recruitment cycle are eligible to apply. This scholarship is for people who have not yet been initiated into a chapter but are interested in doing so. Additionally, in order to be eligible to receive the scholarship, you must meet the GPA minimum to go through recruitment( Arts& Sciences 2.5, Engineering 2.3), and maximize your options during recruitment. (This means that you have attended all recruitment parties you were invited to and have ranked each chapter you have attended each round. This is not something to worry about because this is what is normal for any PNM who is going through recruitment with an open mind and giving each chapter a chance. For more information on this, email tuftspanhel.recruitment@gmail.com).

Only students who receive financial assistance from Tufts University will be eligible to apply for the scholarship. The OFSL will verify this with the Financial Aid Office. However, if you do not receive aid from Tufts University, but do receive significant aid from another source or think you should be eligible to apply for the scholarship for another legitimate reason, please email Susanna.Mcglone@tufts.edu. Exceptions could be made in extenuating circumstances.

WHAT IS THE APPLICATION PROCESS?

1. Fulfill the aforementioned criteria
2. Complete the application (due September 13, 2019 by 11:59 pm)
3. Start to explore the possibilities of joining the Tufts Panhellenic Community

THINGS TO KNOW:

You will be notified by September 20th, 2019 via email. Because this is a Panhellenic scholarship, the chapter that you end up joining will not impact your chances of receiving the scholarship. The OFSL will use the following criteria (in order) to determine the recipients of the scholarship: percentage of aid (most important factor) and your personal statement.
The exact amount of money that will be awarded is still being determined. This money will be given to the recipient as a check and recipients must provide the OFSL with proof that this money was utilized solely for dues. Each recipient receives a one time sum in Fall 2019 and will not be eligible for the scholarship again, as it is currently only for new members. The money you receive this semester can be applied to dues for the Fall 2019 and/or Spring 2020 semesters only. The scholarship recipients have discretion to divide the money between their first two semesters of dues as they see fit. It will be confirmed that the money received through this scholarship is used to pay for Panhellenic sorority dues only. However, we trust the scholarship recipients to determine how to divide the money in the way that best alleviates the financial burden of joining a sorority.
